The device compresses fuel in injection pumps. The pressure reduction in the pump cylinder initiated at the end of an injection stroke, is generated by the introduction of one or more control bores separate from the main bores. This gives separate control of the pressure reduction at high pressures and the subsequent pressure reduction stage within a low pressure range, and the filling phase. The cross sections of the additional bores, and their positioning relative to each and to the main bores, prevents high peaks in pressure gradients in the pump chamber during this pressure reduction phase.
