PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To ensure satisfactory characteristics even with respect to recording- reproducing characteristics at high linear velocity and signal characteristics at high density. SOLUTION: An optical disk as the optical recording medium has a recording layer 4 comprising a phase change material which reversibly causes a phase change between crystalline and noncrystalline states and dielectric layers 3 and 5 formed adjacently to the recording layer 4. When a phase change is caused in the recording layer 4 by irradiation with beams of light, an information signal is recorded and/or vanished. Carbon and oxygen exist at the interface between the recording layer 4 and the dielectric layer 3 and that between the recording layer 4 and the dielectric layer 5. |
