PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a field work supporting device for CEs (customer engineer) who conduct maintenance works on the electronic equipment etc. of customers. SOLUTION: A service base 10 is connected to a head office 20 etc. and receives work instructions for periodic inspections etc. and the notice on the failure of a computer etc. set up at a job site 50 which is the place of a customer. A scheduling person 11 at the base 10 makes the working schedule of each CE on a personal computer 120. A CE 51 dispatched to the job side 50 carries a personal computer 52 equipped with a portable telephone set 53 and receives his/her working schedule and work breakdown through a public communication channel. When a failure suddenly occurs, a field work supporting device selects the optimum CE correspondingly to the nature of the failure and informs the selected CE of the failure. At the same time, the device makes necessary support, such as the work instruction. Upon completing the work, the CE reports the completion to the base 10 by utilizing the public communication channel.
