PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To record multiple values of information in a unit recording region. SOLUTION: Since light propagating in a recording layer 3 leaks from projecting parts 5 formed on the surface of recording layer 3, 2m kinds of rugged patterns are prepared to record m-bits of information on a unit recording region 4, and this makes it possible for the light intensity leaking from the rugged patterns through the recording layer 3 to take 2m gradation values, to record multiple values of m-bit information in the unit recording region.
