PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a device and a method for preparing cropping images by a cropping volume data set in real time, with which real-time volume rendering at a prescribed rate can be facilitated without reducing the frame rate. SOLUTION: Data related to a volume image are processed in real time by a pipeline, including a cropping stage. For the data, the timing of operation is matched at a prescribed rate through the cropping stage, and the rendering of 30 frames per second at least is facilitated. Three orthogonal cropping areas can be defined at a maximum by this pipeline, and various kinds of combination of cropping areas are provided by a control logic for executing AND, OR and inversion (!) operation.
