PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a communication terminal where the intention of the user to transmit a magnified image is not disregarded. SOLUTION: When the user designates transmission of a magnified image, an image of an original read by a read section 14 is magnified at a designated magnification, the image is coded and stored in an image memory 19. When starting communication with a communication section 16, the reception capability of an opposite terminal is acquired so as to judge whether or not the opposite terminal has a capability of receiving the transmitted image whose size is magnified. When the opposite terminal cannot receive the magnified image, only part of the image whose size is acceptable for the opposite terminal is transmitted, or the communication is stopped. Since size reduction processing according to the reception capability of the opposite terminal, which is a common procedure in conventional terminals, is not made when the magnification is designated, the intention of the user to transmit a magnified image is not neglected.
