PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide the article discharge device of an automatic vending machine, which prevents the collapse of articles in a storage space 38 and in which the erroneous detection of sell-out and the clog of the articles are difficult to occur. SOLUTION: A discharge body 44 is reciprocated among a first standby position at the back of a storage space 38, a second standby position in the middle of the storage space 38 and a front position on the front side of the storage space 38. A sell-out detector 72 moving forwards/backwards on the base of the storage space and detecting sell-out is installed in a position where the articles in the rear column of the storage space 38 are collected. While the discharge body 44 moves backwards to the first standby position from the second standby position, the sell-out detector 72 is held in a projection position on the base of the storage space 38 and the articles in the rear column are supported by the sell-out detector 72 and are prevented from largely inclining. When the discharge body 44 reaches the first standby position, the holding of the product in the projection position of the sell-out detector 72 is released and the product is placed on the base.
