PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To specify the occurrence place of a read error. SOLUTION: A system controller 6 once detecting a switch 8 being turned on reads the TOC or PMA of a loaded disk out and makes an error display by holding an access lamp ON in case if a failure in reading. When the reading is successful, it is decided whether or not the read contents are audio data or a file according to the read-out TOC or PMA and audio readout inspection is performed when the contents are the audio data. When the contents are the file, on the other hand, file readout inspection is performed.
