PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image reader where a deviation in an image read position in the subscanning direction caused by a mechanical backlash on the configuration of a scanning sequence is corrected by using a subscanning position detection mark and a subscanning direction image read position correction means so as to prevent deviation in one color caused by the backlash, to provide the read position correction method and the storage medium. SOLUTION: The image reader is provided with an image read sensor 27 that reads an object for each scanning operation and outputs read image color information on each color component and with a control means 39 that allows the image read sensor 27 to read a subscanning position detection mark 61 in a scanning stop state before the scanning, compares the read position for each prescribed scanning operation and controls a stepping motor device 140 based on the comparison result so as to correct the deviation in the image read position in the subscanning direction.
