PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To perform a process corresponding to the number of audio data bits to be processed by common constitution by controlling the writing of data to a memory means and the reading of data from the memory means. SOLUTION: The audio data are written to RAMs 13A and 13B. When the audio data comprise 16 bits, every 2 bytes are written as a write unit (16 bits). Further, 24-bit audio data are written write units (24 bits) each composed of three bytes. The writing is carried out laterally cyclically so that a byte number 0 which is an external code number comes after a byte number 17. The reading is carried out longitudinally by 8 byte numbers at a time. Namely, two read units are read out. At this time, only data having even numbered external code numbers are read out. Then data having odd numbered external code numbers are read out.
