PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To simplify a mechanism for carrying plural kinds of recording media such as CD, MD or the like to a specified clamping position, and to increase the accuracy of positioning thereof. SOLUTION: A holder 26 capable of housing an MD is supported on a sub- chassis so as to be moved back and forth, and a pair of positioning pins 30 are vertically provided in this holder 26 so as to be abutted on the outer peripheral edge of a CD. A female member 29 engaged with a lead screw 21 is attached to the holder 26, and by directly connecting this lead screw 27 to the rotary shaft of a stepping motor 28, the holder 26 is moved back and forth by the rotation of the stepping motor 28. When any one of the MD and the CD (small or large diameter disk SD or LD) is inserted from an insertion port, a control circuit determines its kind, and outputs a specified pulse signal to the stepping motor 28. Thus, the holder 26 is stopped after being moved by a specified amount.
