A regulating transformer includes a tapped winding portion B, Fig. 1, or a number of parallel connected coaxial parts I, II, Fig. 3, formed by winding together a plurality b 1 , b 2 of individual conductors which are connected in series in said winding portion or in each part I, II thereof, the number of tappings (1, 2, 3, 4) being greater than the number of the said conductors b 1 , b 2 . Any electromagnetic forces upon the turns are thus distributed over an appreciable part of the length of the core irrespective of the tapping point selected, this part of the length being, for example, ¢, Fig. 1, 2/5, Fig. 2 (not shown), or ¢ of each of two parallel connected parts, Fig. 3. With two cylindrical layer windings B 1 , B 2 having four conductors b 1 <SP>1</SP> to b 4 <SP>1</SP> and three conductors b 1 <SP>11</SP> to b 3 11 respectively, Fig. 4 (not shown), each voltage step 1, 2, 3, 4 may occupy one complete conductor wound on B 1 and ¥ of a conductor wound on B 2 . Six disc coils, Fig. 5 (not shown), each comprising two conductors may provide six voltage steps. |
