Aqueous lubricant and cutting fluids comprise an alkanolamine, a C6- 12 organic acid, and a polyoxyalkylene glycol. The amine and acid may be present as the salt formed between them. Optional additives mentioned include alkali metal nitrites and hydroxides, sodium mercaptobenzothiazole, phenols including chlorinated phenols, phenates, boric acid, boron oxides, and salts of E.D.T.A., nitrilo-triacetic acid, and diethylene triamine penta-acetic acid. A typical product is an aqueous system containing 20% triethanolamine, 3% 2-ethyl-hexoic acid, and 7% of a 75:25 ethylene oxide/propylene oxide copolymer. |
