<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable high-level scanning control over a Web browser by allowing a server to generate an interface in a client Web browser, in response to the URL address identifying the server itself and to return a software program in general format enabling interaction, when a scanning job and relative data are started, modified, and monitored. SOLUTION: A server 10 connects a network 14 to a peripheral device 16, such as a printer and a scanner. When a user opens a hypertext transfer protocol(HTTP) connection with the server 10 or instructs a browser of a client 12 to connect to the server 10, the client 12 connects to the server 10. When this connection is established, the server 10 sends a scanning management applet to the client 12. The applet runs on a Java virtual machine of the Web browser to connect the Web browser to the server 10, and then an interface matching scanning operation by the user is provided.</p> |
