Dry-cleaning solvent compositions comprise at least one completely substituted chlorofluoro-hydrocarbon solvent boiling at 30 DEG C. or higher at atmopheric pressure and, as emulsifying agent, tetrakis-(2-hydroxypropyl)-ethylenediamine partially quaternized with dimethyl sulphate and partially esterified with a fatty acid. The emulsifying agent preferably contains an average of two ester groups and an average of 0.7 to 1.7 moles of dimethyl sulphate per mole of tetrakis-(2-hyroxypropyl)-ethylene diamine. Compositions containing high concentrations of the emulsifying agent, e.g. above 0.5%, may be added to compositions which have been recovered from dry cleaning processes and are deficient in emulsifier content, thus enabling the composition to be used again. Specified chlorofluorohydrocarbons are 1,1,2-trichloro-1,2,2-trifluoroethane, 1,1,2,2-tetrachloro-1,2-difluoroethane, 1,1,1 - trichloro - 2,2,2 - trifluoroethane and 1,2-dichloro-1,1,2,2-tetrafluoroethane. The compositions may contain minor proportions of blending agents such as alkylene glycols, polyglycols and esters thereof, polyol esters, and alcohol, and also traces of odorants.ALSO:N,N,N1,N1-tetrakis-(2-hydroxypropyl) ethylene diamine is esterified with about 2 molecular proportions of oleic acid and quaternized with 0.7 to 1.7 molecular proportions of dimethyl sulphate. |
