PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To shorten the waiting time of a processor and to make it possible to execute a high speed program without requiring the generation of a prefetching instruction by a compiller and chang-ing data stored in a cache memory. SOLUTION: In the prefetching method, a state that a read request address from a processor 4 to a main storage 2 is a prefetching space is discriminated, and then data are prefetched and stored in a prefetch buffer 30 independently of the operation of the processor 4. When the processor 4 requests data stored in the buffer 30, data are supplied from the buffer 30 to the processor 40.
