PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To suppress the occurrence of horizontal noise due to electronic shutter operation. SOLUTION: In an amplification type solid-state image pickup device, the timing (time a') of generation and sending of a reset signal RSi for electronic shutter operation is shifted from a conventional timing (time (a)) so that the impression timing of the reset signal RSi for electronic shutter operation may not overlap the period when a pixel row is selected for read operation (period when SLn is in the high level). As the result, reset potentials which can be varied by execution and non-execution of read operation in rows of one another are equalized in individual rows to eliminate the cause of the occurrence of horizontal noise.
