PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the deterioration of reproducing output property due to grinding of the ABS surface at the time of manufacturing and to make adaptable to a high density recording by further narrowing and making smaller the stripe height, in a magnetic head device with a reproducing head mainly constituted of a magnetoresistance effect element. SOLUTION: The magnetic head device 1 is such that, on one side of the slider 2, a thin film magnetic head element 3 is formed by lamination having a reproducing element 5 which is mainly constituted of magnetoresistance effect element 5, and that the magnetoresistance effect element 5 is exposed on the side oppositely facing a magnetic recording medium. In this case, the deteriorated layer R which is formed on the exposed side of the magnetoresistance effect element 5 by the grinding of the side face opposite to the magnetic recording medium is removed by dry etching. |
