PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a solid-state image pickup device where requirements of enhancement of image quality and high processing speed that are trade-off requirements can be satisfied and to provide a pixel data generating method. SOLUTION: A light receiving element of an image pickup section 18 placed corresponding to a color filter of a color separation filter CF of a digital still camera 10 receives a light, an A/D converter section 20 converts an obtained image pickup output into image digital data and a buffer memory 22 stores the image data. Then an image selection section 28 selects an image read from the buffer memory 22, The buffer memory 22 outputs the selected image data to a signal processing section 24. The signal processing section 24 applies signal processing in response to the mode with priority among settings of resolution of an image or a read speed of the image under the control of a system control section 16. The processed signal is especially fed to a matrix section 24b via the buffer memory 22 and an output destination changeover section 240a by the processing of a display signal processing section 242a. In the case of placing priority of the image read speed, image data that are grouped as they are outputted without decreasing the number of pixels.
