PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a separator capable of developing high battery performance and a secondary battery using it. SOLUTION: This separator for an alkaline storage battery is made of a nonwoven fabric mainly comprising polyolefin containing a stabilizer, the air permeability of the nonwoven fabric is 10-100 cc/cm2/sec, the basis weight is 30-100 g/m2, the thickness is 80-300μm, and the amount of the stabilizer extracted with chloroform by a Soxhlet extraction method is less than 200 ppm per weight of the nonwoven fabric.
