PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a hybrid magnet of a structure, capable of effectively using the energy which a permanent magnet has by excitation of an electromagnet, and a stepping motor using the magnet. SOLUTION: This hybrid magnet is equipped with an electromagnet 16 constituted by winding an exciting coil 14 around an iron core 12 formed in an U- shape by a trunk part 12a and right and left arm parts 12b whose cross sections are rectangular, and a square rod type engaging member 22, which clamps a permanent magnet 18 from both sides with magnetic members 20 and is closely bonded spreading between both of the external ends of the arm parts of the iron core 12. The permanent magnet 18 is positioned between the arm parts of the iron core 12. The ratio of the width of the permanent magnet 18 to the sum of widths of the magnetic members 20 is set in the range of 1:1 to 1:15.
