PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an organic EL element having a high function and durability, and a method for manufacturing the same. SOLUTION: Regarding an organic EL element having an organic luminous layer containing an organic light emitter between an anode 12 and a cathode, at least one element selected from the elements of nitrogen, sulfur, selenium, tellurim, phosphorus and halogen is contained in the surface part 13 of the anode 12. The anode 12 is preferably a substance containing a conductive oxide. Also, the suitable thickness of the surface part 13 of the anode 12 is 0.1 to 10.0 mm. In this manufacturing method for the organic EL element, the surface of the anode 12 is formed by plasma etching, ionizing or radical treating the above elements.
