PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To increase the sensitivity and to improve reproduced waveforms by forming a soft magnetic composite layer out of two soft magnetic layers which are antiferromagnetically bonded with each other and a film which separates and antiferromagnetically bonds the two soft magnetic films. SOLUTION: As for the magnetoresistance effect film 30, an antiferromagnetic layer (NiO) 35, fixed layer (CoFe) 40, Cu 60, soft magnetic composite layer (free layer) 50, Cu 60, fixed layer (CoFe) 66 and antiferromagnetic layer (NiO) 71 are successively laminated. Then, an org. resist film is laminated and patterned into a desired shape, on which a permanent magnet film (CoCrPt film) 80 is laminated and processed into a desired shape and further Nb/Au/Nb are deposited thereon and processed to form an electrode 90. Further, a magnetic gap forming insulating film (Al2O3 film) 100 and an upper shield film (NiFe film) 110 are laminated, formed and processed into a desired shape to produce a magnetic head. When the first fixed layer 40 is formed, a magnetic field is applied in a specified direction to fix the magnetization of the layer along this direction.
