<p>FIELD: metallurgy. SUBSTANCE: method may be used in recovery of nickel from laterite ores with high content of magnesium and also containing iron. The method includes leaching of saprolite ores with mineral acids from group including HCl, H2SO4 and HNO3, preferably, HCl. After leaching (for instance, with HCl), mother liquor is separated from undissolved solid substance and nickel is recovered preferably from liquor due to its contact with ion-exchange resin selectivity adsorbing nickel. Remaining refined liquor containing iron and magnesium chlorides may be subjected to pyrohydrolysis to obtain their corresponding oxides and free HCl, which may be used again in leaching system. Nickel is recovered from ion-exchange resin with the help of desorbing solution of acid, and dissolved nickel is recovered from this nickel-containing desorbing solution.
