FIELD: optical amplifiers or optical generators for fiber-optical communication and for manufacturing of three-dimensional memory units. SUBSTANCE: method involves focusing of input beam into selected dielectric region using axial cone. Pulse energy conforms to condition that beam intensity along axis of axial cone, i.e. along its focus, is greater than threshold intensity value for ionization of dielectric under processing.
