A pharmaceutical composition that inhibits the growth of tumors and cancers in mammals comprising a compound of as pictured above, wherein Z is selected from -CH2-CH2-, -CH2-CH2-CH2-, -CH(CH3)-CH(CH3)- and -CH2-CH(alkyl)- and Ar is selected from phenyl, thienyl, halothienyl, naphthyl and fluorenyl. These compounds can also be used to treat viral infections.
