PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a detection result which is small in variation due to the color of an object to be detected and has high reliability and wide measurement width with simple constitution. SOLUTION: The detecting device has a light emitting element 201 which irradiates the object to be detected with light and a light receiving element 202 which detects the light of the light emitting element 201 reflected by the object. In this case, the light receiving element 202 detects the position where the light reception surface of the light receiving element 202 receives the light of the light emitting element 201 reflected by the object to detect the distance to the object.
