IMAGE READER AND IMAGE READING METHOD

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an inexpensive image reader and an image reading method by which image reading processing is executed at high speed. SOLUTION: The light quantity of a lamp 52 provided at the pre-scanning part 36 of a film image reader 16 and the charge storing time of a CCD area sensor 62 are set to be at a fixed value at the time of reading a frame image recorded on negative film 12. Also, this device is provided with an image buffer 70 for holding a density value data (image data) obtained by a fine scanning part 38 until automatic set-up processing and a positive image test executed based on the density value data are completed.
