PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and a device which automatically acquires a waveform measured value to store it by using a measuring device with a video display. SOLUTION: An automatic acquisition module 5 is measured by a measurement probe 10 during an acquisition period of waveforms. One or more sets of acquisition samples of an investigation waveform 11 produced in a cable 74 are automatically acquired. The module 5 determines a sample set to be selected based upon the acquired sample sets, when the an acquisition period of waveforms expires. A control device 30 controls the module 5 and a memory 36 for causing each of selected sample sets determined by the module 5 to store in the memory 36. The device 30 also controls the memory 36 and a video display 80 to search for each memorized sample set from the memory 36 and then inspect the waveform expressed by the selected sample sets with the display 80.
