PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To permit the reduction of inflow of heat into a low-temperature side and improve a refrigerating capacity, by a method wherein a compressor repeating the supply and the recovery of compressed operation gas, and a pulse tube in which a spiral inside passage is defined, are provided and a cold heat storage device is interposed on the half way of a pipeline communicating the compressor with the pulse tube. SOLUTION: A pulse tube 1, in which a spiral internal passage is defined in a hollow vessel 13 by fitting an internal member 15, provided with a spiral groove 14 formed on the outer periphery of the same, into the vessel 13, is provided and one end (a low-temperature end) 11 of the same is connected to one end (a low-temperature end) of a cold storage vessel 3 while the other end (a high-temperature end) of the cold storage vessel 3 is connected to the discharging port of a compressor 5 through pipelines. In this case, the discharging gas of the compressor 5 is supplied to the cold storage vessel 3 whereby operation gas in the cold storage vessel 3 and the pulse tube 1 is moved reciprocally while changing the pressure as well as the volume of the same thereby generating cold heat in the low- temperature end of the pulse tube 1 through heat exchange in the cold storage vessel 3. An intermediate pressure chamber 8 is connected to the other end (a high-temperature end) 12 of the pulse tube 1 through a gas pipeline 7, in which a flow passage impedance 6 including valves is interposed.
