PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a piston ring capable of even following the thermal expansion of a cylinder made of an aluminum alloy, in the piston ring applied to the cylinder made of an aluminum alloy as a mating material. SOLUTION: For a piston ring slide applied to a cylinder made of an aluminum alloy as a mating material, austenite stainless steel having a thermal expansion coefficient of 15×10-6/ deg.C or higher is used. Especially, the piston ring is preferably made of austenite stainless steel containing Ni in the range of 3.5 w.% to 17 w.% and Cr in the range of 15 w.% to 20 w.%. Also, preferably, a nitride layer is formed by interstitial element nitriding treatment or surface treatment of any on selected from chrome plating, composite chrome plating, composite plating, thermal spraying and physical vapor-deposition is performed.
