PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To produce a sintered composite material improved in wear resistance and also excellent in lubricity. SOLUTION: In this sintered composite material, amorphous carbon particles and graphite particles are dispersed into the continuous phases of pure aluminum or an aluminum alloy. As for the method for producing the sintered composite material, aluminum or aluminum alloy powder and a powdery mixture composed of amorphous carbon powder with 5 to 300μm average particle size or graphite powder in which the particle size ratio with the pure aluminum or aluminum alloy powder is controlled to >=0.2 and aluminum borate powder with 2 to 300μm average particle size are compacted, and the compacted body obtd. by the compacting is sintered.
