PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a line number conversion circuit converting an interlace signal to a non-interlace signal of the number of optional lines while suppressing deterioration in resolution without a field memory and a display device loading it. SOLUTION: In a line number conversion circuit 2 converting an interlace signal to a non-interlace signal, first the number of lines of the interlace signal is doubled by a simple double speed conversion circuit 21 which provides an excellent picture quality. Then, the number of lines that does not suffice by the doubled line number is generated by an expansion processing (interpolation) circuit 22, and the interlace signal is converted finally into a non-interlace signal of the number of prescribed lines.
