PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve fire resistance, strength and durability by press attaching a thin steel sheet of less than specified thickness on a surface of a woody member with a special adhesive singly in vacuum, wrapping, etc., or by combining them. SOLUTION: This steel-sheet-covered woody structural material is formed by press attaching a thin steel sheet 2 of less than 0.5 mm thickness on a surface of a woody member 1 with a special adhesive singly in vacuum, wrapping, etc., or by combining them. It is desirable to make thickness of the thin steel sheet 2 less than 0.5 mm as it is hard in workability, increases material cost and working cost with the steel sheet of more than 0.5 mm thick and not practical. Additionally, as the steel-sheet-covered woody structural material is a member press attaching and wrapping the thin steel sheet 2, it is excellent in fire resistance and in strength and durability. It is possible to increase durability without deterioration of a wooden part due to outside air by applying vacuum or inactive gas charging treatment in the inside of the steel-sheet-covered woody structural material.
