PURPOSE: To perform proper grinding and polishing of the surface of a work even when the surface of the work is formed in an uneven surface shape and a warp occurs to the surface, in a belt sander having a control roll and a compacting pad device. CONSTITUTION: A compacting pressure pad device 20 and a contact roll 12 are linked to respective different elevation drive devices (x) capable to control a moving amount, a machined surface detecting element to output height data of a work surface is disposed, and a height data generated from the machined surface detecting element is inputted. Control is effected so that in synchronism with arrival of a detecting portion for a work to a contact roll 12 and a compacting pad device 20, the compacting pad device 20 and the contact roll 12 are orderly and individually elevated at a stroke approximately equal to height data of the machined surface detecting element. |
