Apparatus for making compressed hay wafers includes an annular series of axially open die cells 76 in housings 78, each having axially spaced entrance and exit ends, rotary compression means such as an auger 58 and rollers 62 for successively applying force to hay disposed opposite the entrance onds of the die cells 76 to compress a column of hay into and through the die cells, and means such as the brackets 132 axially engageable with columns of hay emerging from the exit ends of the die cells axially to compact the columns and form them into compressed wafers of hay as the force is applied.
