PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a range-finding device that an effect exerted on a range- finding action such as a focus detecting action by harmful light is eliminated and the AF accuracy of a principal object can be enhanced by changing a prescribed range-finding arithmetic method so that the effect of the harmful light is eliminated when it is judged that the harmful light is included. SOLUTION: By a range-finding means 1, the focusing state of a photographing lens or a distance to the object is detected by the prescribed range-finding arithmetic method and a range-finding signal is outputted. By a harmful light judgement means 2, the existence of the harmful light exerting the adverse effect on the range-finding action is judged based on the output of the range-finding means 1. When it is judged by the judgement means 2 that the harmful light is included, the range-finding means 1 is instructed by a range-finding arithmetic method change means 3 so that the range-finding arithmetic method is changed in order to eliminate the effect of the harmful light. By a control means 4, a focusing control action is executed based on the output of the range-finding means 1. Thus, even when the object of the harmful light exists in the background of the principal object, the effect thereof is eliminated and the AF accuracy is enhanced. |
