PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an underwater object detecting apparatus by which an object to be detected can be detected precisely even when a ship or the like is rocked (tilted) in detecting the object. SOLUTION: A tilt sensor 30 which is used to detect the inclination of a ship or the like is installed at this underwater object detecting apparatus such as a fish finder or the like which is carried on the ship or the like. The tilt sensor 30 outputs an ON/OFF signal according to the inclination of the ship or the like. On the basis of the ON/OFF signal, whether or not ultrasonic waves are transmitted from the underwater object detecting apparatus is selected. Concretely, the tilt sensor 30 is provided with a container 32, and electrodes 36a to 36d are arranged in the container 32. The container 32 is filled with mercury 37 up to a level which exceeds the electrodes 36a to 36d. The container 32 is grounded via a voltage source V, and the electrodes 36a to 36d are grounded via respective resistors R. In addition, the electrodes 36a to 36d are connected to the output terminal 39 of the tilt sensor 30 via an AND gate 38 which outputs the ON/OFF signal.
