PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To place or remove head covers on or from cylinder heads whether fuel return passages are on or off the head covers, and lay fuel return passages in physical noninterference with members on the side of cylinder heads. SOLUTION: A Cylinder head 3 has in its thick wall portion a communication passage 29 interconnecting the interior and exterior of a head cover 4 to form a part of a fuel return passage 28. An excess fuel outlet 32 of the communication passage 29 is situated at the top of the cylinder head 3 outside of the head cover 4. The fuel return passage 28 returns excess fuel from fuel injection nozzles 18 in the head cover 4 to a fuel tank 20 placed outside of the head cover 4 via the communication passage 29.
