PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve rise characteristic by preferentially discharging high pressure compressed gas of a discharge chamber to a refrigeration cycle at initiation of a heating operation and to operate with high efficiency by making a steady operation an internal high pressure type operation. SOLUTION: In a hermetic compressor wherein a discharge chamber 5 of a compressed gas discharged into a closed container 1 from a discharge opening 4 provided on a compressing part 3 and a motor chamber 2a accommodating a motor 2 are partitioned by the compressing part 3, and gas passageways penetrating the compressing part 3 and communicating the motor chamber 2a with the discharge chamber 5 are provided, a first and second gas passageways 7a and 7b are provided with space in between, a first discharge chamber 8a enclosing the discharge opening 4 with a partition is provided between a back surface of the compressing part 3 and a side surface of the closed container 1 facing the back surface of the compressing part 3, a second discharge chamber 8b is provided adjacent to the first discharge chamber 8a and enclosing the first gas passageway 7a, a first opening/closing valve 9a opening and closing between the first and second discharge chambers 8a and 8b is provided, and a second opening/closing valve 9b is provided on a side of the first discharge chamber 8a facing the second gas passageway 7b.
