A water purification system comprises means, e.g. degassing pots 11, for degassing a quantity of water; means, e.g. counter current heat exchanger 25, for heating the degassed water to at least 260 degrees F, heated vacuum chamber means 20 for receiving the heated water and vaporizing the water in an explosive fashion, and means, e.g. a counter current chiller 30, for condensing and cooling the water for consumption. Water to be degassed may first be run through a counter current heat exchanger 2 to preheat the water. The heated, degassed water may be injected into chamber means 20 and superheated to at least 350 degrees F. The condensed water may be pumped out through a mineral column 33 and a carbon column 34 to replenish the trace minerals and remove any residual taste.
