Patch type radiating element for use in a linear antenna array

A patch radiator includes a driven element and a non-planar patch, such as the dihedral patch 2, which is shaped to produce a particular beam pattern when excited by the driven element. Two driven elements may excite orthogonal resonant modes in the patch, and the patch may be oriented with respect to the whole of the radiator including the ground plane 1 and the parasitic elements 5, so that the beam width of one resonant mode is varied more than the beam width of the other resonant mode due to the geometry of the patch.
