PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a clear and bright multicolor display with a reduced number of display layers, which results in smaller parallax and cost. SOLUTION: A cell 51 having a display layer 31 comprising a right twist cholesteric liquid crystal which selectively reflects blue light, a cell 53 having a display layer 33 comprising a left twist cholesteric liquid crystal which selectively reflects green light, a cell 57 having a display layer 37 comprising a right twist cholesteric liquid crystal which selectively reflects yellow light and a cell 55 having a display layer 35 comprising a left twist cholesteric liquid crystal which selectively reflects and light are laminated successively from the viewer's side. A color filter 43 which transmits red light and absorbs light of other colors is provided between the cells 57 and 55 and a black light absorption layer 41 is formed on the rear side of the cell 55. |
