PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To completely purify hydrocarbons by placing an HC adsorbent in an exhaust passage of the engine, providing a recirculating apparatus for recirculating an exhaust gas into an intake passage of the engine, and placing a NOx absorbent in the exhaust passage of the engine. SOLUTION: An exhaust port 10 is connected to an exhaust turbine 23 of an exhaust turbo charger 15. The exhaust turbine 23 is connected to a catalytic converter 26 having a catalyst 25 therein. An exhaust pipe 28 connected to the catalytic converter 26 and an air intake pipe 17 located downstream of a throttle valve 20 are connected to each other through an exhaust-gas recirculating passage 29. An HC adsorbent 53 for adsorbing unburned hydrocarbon(HC) contained in an exhaust gas is placed in an exhaust pipe 24. A NOx absorbent 25 is placed in a casing 26. Thus, HC can always be prevented from flowing out into the atmosphere, regardless of respective temperatures of the HC adsorbent and NOx absorbent. |
