PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain uniform cell thickness, to decrease the number of production processes and to obtain a display with a large angle of visual field and high quality by using spacer beads partly embedded and fixed in a polymer wall to regulate the distance between substrates. SOLUTION: A color filter having a color resin layer 3 and a BM layer 2 to shade the space among the color patterns from light is formed on a glass substrate 1a. An overcoating layer 4 and a transparent electrode 5 are formed thereon. Further, a polymer wall 6 is formed to surround the pixels, and spacer beads 7 to regulate the cell thickness are partly embedded and fixed in the polymer wall 6. Since formation of columnar projections or increase in the height of the polymer wall 6 are not required, irregular thickness of the cell due to irregular coating of the photosensitive resin can be prevented. The polymer wall 6 is preferably formed to have a inclined part in the cross section with the taper angle between 5 deg. and 45 deg. to one substrate.
