PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent a wear, and damage of a light emitting element due to contact with a coordinate input surface and to simultaneously enhance the operability in an indication tool for coordinate input of an optical coordinate input device. SOLUTION: A cap 46 to cover the light emitting element 41 provided at the tip part of the indication tool 4 is held by a slide member 48 and is slidably provided along the axis direction of the indication tool 4. A tact switch 49 is actuated by being linked with the cap 46 by depressing or detaching the cap 46 on the coordinate input surface and drive control of the light emitting element 41 is switched. For example, the light emitting element is driven by depression and drive of the light emitting element is stopped by detachment. Since the light emitting element 41 is covered by the cap 46, the wear and damage of the light emitting element 41 are prevented. In addition, since no additional operation is necessary for switching the drive control of the light emitting element 41, the operability is enhanced.
