PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a projection type display device which has a high outgoing luminous flux by drawing out the cooling capacity of a cooling fan maximumly and making the device to be light in weight and thin and small in size. SOLUTION: In a projection type display device which is provided with three liquid crystal light valves and a prism composing lights modulated by the light valves, the display device is made to be light in weight, thin and small in size by fixing the prism to a thin structural base 16 and by separating a cooling fan 18 from the lower part of the light valves and by feeding wind from the fan 18 into the base 16 from a lens direction by a wind introducing duct 17.
