PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent the deterioration of video quality due to the reflection of external light and to enable even a spectacled observer to view a video in an absorption feeling by forming eyepiece windows in parts facing observer's eyeballs and applying a light scattering processing to an outer covering member around the eyepiece windows. SOLUTION: The main body 31 of a head mounted type video display device (HMD) is constituted of a video display part 32 and a mount part 33 which is mounted on and fixed to the observer's head. The mount part 33 is provided with a forehead pad 34. The video display part 32 is connected to the mount part 33 with a hinge part 35, and the video display part 32 is rotated with reference to the mount part 33 by the shaft of the hinge part 35. The light scattering processing is applied on the surface of the outer covering member facing the observer on the side of the eyepiece windows 36 of the video display part 32. By forming fine projecting/recessed parts on the surface as the light scatting processing, the external light is reflected and scattered in various directions. It is preferable that the outer covering member is black or dark color nearly black.
