PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a block compact for a channel capable of forming the channel amiable to organisms without giving an adverse effect to the living environment of animals and plants unlike a concrete channel and excellent in water permeability. SOLUTION: This compact is mainly made of the slag generated in the steel manufacturing process. The powdery and/or granular slag used as a main raw material is consolidated to form the compact while CaCO3 generated by the carbonation reaction of CaO mainly contained in the slag is used as a binder. When this compact is used for a channel, the pH of water in the channel is not increased, it is effective for embedding and growing aquatic plants, and the water in the channel can infiltrate into the ground because the channel has proper water permeability.
