PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To effectively remove an oil contained in an exhaust gas in granulating a surfactant-containing slurry by a spray drying method using hot air. SOLUTION: In this method for hot air spray drying by spraying a surfactant- containing slurry in a drying chamber of a spray drying column 11 and drying the surfactant-containing slurry by counter-current contact with hot air in the drying chamber to give dried particles, oil adsorbing inorganic fine powder is introduced into a hot air exhaust gas in the dry chamber and/or from the drying chamber and accompanied by hot air at >=80 deg.C. The whole or a part of the oil adsorbing inorganic fine powder is discharged together with a dried column exhaust gas to reduce an oil in the dried column exhaust gas.
